As someone just 48 hours ahead of you on this journey, MAKE SURE you get him latching correctly as early as possible. We were having so many issues getting Stella to latch and eat in the hospital that I let her latch on just my nipple a couple of times instead of the entire areola. NOT smart. Didn't really hurt at the time, but it sets up your nipples to get overly tender and it's not like the baby ever STOPS needing to eat and can give them a break to heal. Now I'm in some serious pain when she latches on even a little incorrectly and it's my own fault - if she's latched correctly, there is NO PAIN and that's the way it should be! Get Hampton in the habit of latching correctly right away and your nipples will love you for it! If he latches on just the nipple, break the seal, pull him off, get him to open his mouth WIDE and try again (don't be afraid to really shove him on there quickly as soon as the mouth is open). It's a pain at the time, but totally worth it.
